        The trap

        —

Requests in the last 7 days to a hidden path that robots.txt forbids and no human can see. Only crawlers that ignore the rules end up here.

        Method

        How the instrument decides.

Four layers: structured server logs, a cookie-free script that reports whether it ran and whether a person touched the page, a 1×1 image for script-less readers, and a trap. A visit gets the first verdict that fits.

        Hybrid

Declares itself an AI agent acting for a person (ChatGPT-User, Claude-User, Perplexity-User…), or runs the script under automation: webdriver, headless engines, synthetic events.

        Machine

Declares itself a crawler, or never runs the script and sends none of the headers a real browser sends, or walks into the trap.

        Human

Runs the script, shows no automation tells, and produces trusted input: real pointer movement, scrolling, keys or taps.

        Unresolved

Looks like a browser but gives no trusted input, or blocks scripts. Could be a reader who left fast, could be a careful bot. We don't guess.

Privacy: no cookies are set. A random session id lives in this tab's sessionStorage and dies with it. The server keeps raw logs locally for 14 days and publishes only the aggregate counts on this page, with no IP addresses. Data file: /signals.json.
